Our large library of original training materials, academic background and research skills means we can develop training to suit your needs.

For example, we provide two and three hour climate change training workshops which are tailored to the requirements and sector of the client. These typically cover the essentials of climate science and policy and how to tackle the problem in the specific organisation.

We have also delivered bespoke workshops that help local authorities develop adaptation plans or help different local authority services understand how climate change overlaps with their work areas.

Case studies

Hart District Council: boosting climate action within the authority

Problem

Hart District Council had declared a climate emergency, pledged to make climate action central to all its activities in its Corporate Plan and developed a Climate Change Action Plan. Despite this, action on climate change was still largely undertaken by the climate team, which consisted of three officers.

Solution

To help all the council’s service areas to deliver the Climate Change Action Plan, we were developed some training which demonstrated to officers how climate action overlapped with their role. This involved identifying the actions in the action plan that relate to each directorate or service area. During the training, each service area in were shown the actions that came under their remit – and that they will have to play a part in delivering. They were then asked select actions to take co-ownership of. Following the training, participants had a better understanding of their role in delivering the council’s climate objectives. The council as whole was then to make faster progress towards those goals.

Lewes District Council: climate science refresher and adaptation planning

Problem

Lewes District Council found that their senior leadership team did not always have a common understanding of key climate terms such as net zero, carbon neutrality, emissions offsets and emissions removals. They also wanted an opportunity for officers to consider the risks climate change poses to their service area and develop strategies to manage these risks.

Solution

We delivered a three-hour workshop which covered the essentials of climate science and policy and looked at the risks of climate change locally. The workshop also used group exercises to give participants the opportunity to reflect on the challenges of climate change to their service area and think through ways of adapting to these challenges. As a result, officers were on the same page in terms of climate science and jargon and were better prepared to deliver services in the context of a changing climate.

The Climate Change Fundamentals course was a helpful introduction to the science and practicalities of climate change.
